South Wales Central MS Andrew RT Davies has condemned the organisers of a Welsh independence march in Barry after a video message from extremist Irish Republican group Kneecap was played to crowds at the event.

Kneecap – a group who have called for the murder of MPs, chanted in support of terrorist group Hamas, and face serious allegations of antisemitism – appeared on a big screen.

The march, held on Saturday 26th April 2025, was jointly organised by YesCymru and AUOB Cymru, who promoted Kneecap’s video endorsement on social media.

Several Plaid Cymru politicians, including their leader Rhun ap Iorwerth, attended the event – yet have failed to condemn Kneecap’s involvement.

Mr Davies said:

“The appearance of a group like Kneecap lays bare the poison at the heart of the Welsh independence movement.

“The event’s organisers have serious questions to answer – as do Plaid Cymru nationalist politicians who attended and have failed to condemn Kneecap’s involvement.

“This shameful episode exposes the reality of just how extreme parts of the Welsh nationalist and Welsh independence cause are.”
