South Wales Central MS Andrew RT Davies has slammed the scale of sewage discharges in the Vale of Glamorgan after it emerged that three of the ten worst sites in Wales are located in the county.

Penarth Beach, Whitmore Bay on Barry Island and Jackson’s Bay were all among the ten most egregious examples of sewage pollution.

Mr Davies said:

“It’s unacceptable that three of Wales’ worst sewage hotspots are in the Vale – so called “not for profit” Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, whose Chief Executive rakes in hundreds of thousands of pounds a year, must be held to account.

“Since devolution, environmental regulation has been in the hands of Senedd ministers, and they’ve failed.

“It’s no coincidence discharges are worse in Wales than elsewhere in Britain while those in power prioritise 20mph limits and stuffing the Senedd with 36 more politicians.”
