Today is Good Friday – the most solemn day in the Christian calendar.
As we mark this moment in Holy Week, it’s right that we pause to reflect on its meaning – and that of Easter as Christianity’s most important festival.
Britain is a proudly Christian country.
Christ’s sacrifice represents the ultimate act of love, earning forgiveness and redemption for us all and atoning for our sins. It continues to shape and inspire our nation to this day.
Yesterday, it was heartening to see Their Majesties the King and Queen attend the traditional Maundy Thursday service – a timeless act of service and humility.
Last year, the King was sadly unable to take part due to his cancer treatment, so seeing him resume that duty was deeply moving.
The giving of Maundy money is one of our most treasured British traditions, and it was good to see it continue with such dignity.
The message of Easter is one of hope – and it is in that spirit that I look ahead with renewed determination to stand up for the traditions that have shaped our country.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Easter.
