Data seen by the office of Andrew RT Davies revealed that payments for only the first six months of 2022 totalled £682,000, up from £393,000 for the whole of 2020.
Since October 2018, £2,871,000 has been paid out by the Welsh Government-owned, taxpayer funded Transport for Wales, to passengers.
This is despite a downward trend in passenger journeys since 2018-19.
Commenting, Andrew RT Davies said:
“With compensation payments up despite passenger numbers trending downwards, I am concerned that the passenger experience is not improving.
“Unfortunately this is £3 million lost for the taxpayer. We need to see these payments going down, not up.”
