South Wales Central MS and Former Welsh Conservative Senedd Leader Andrew RT Davies has called on Welsh Government to take action on business rates, after Mark Drakeford said doing so would “create vibrant high streets”.
Mr Davies said he’d been calling for cuts to business rates for SMEs for over a decade, and criticised Senedd ministers for failing to replicate the system in England.
Mr Davies said:
“Business rates are a huge pressure on SMEs in my own community of the Vale of Glamorgan, and Mark Drakeford is right to say the need to be cut to make our high streets thrive.
“But his comments raise more questions than answers – for over a decade, I’ve been calling on Labour Senedd ministers to replicate the lower business rates in England, but they’ve repeatedly refused to do so.
“Their constant desire to be different has put Welsh high streets in jeopardy, and a radical change in approach is required.”
