South Wales Central MS and Former Welsh Conservative Senedd Leader Andrew RT Davies has demanded Labour Senedd ministers to rule out reducing speed limits on Welsh roads to 10mph, after a leading charity called for the change to be made.

The demand came from the Road Safety Foundation, which wants speed limits in cities around hospitals, schools, social, sporting and cultural venues reduced to 10mph.

Senedd ministers faced a backlash following the reduction of the default speed limit on restricted roads in Wales to 20mph, a move imposed by Labour, Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats.

Mr Davies said:

“These demands are completely bonkers, pushed by the same people who advocated reducing the speed limit in Wales to 20mph.

“Labour, Plaid Cymru separatist and Liberal Democrat Senedd members imposed 20mph after listening to such charities, so it would be no surprise if they also took these calls for 10mph speed limits seriously.

“Senedd ministers must stop their anti-motorist agenda, rule out any move to 10mph and revert the default limit back to 30mph on Welsh roads.”
