South Wales Central MS and former Welsh Conservative Senedd Leader Andrew RT Davies has backed trade unions’ warnings that an ideological green agenda is costing Welsh jobs.
Unite the Union, GMB Union and former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair all criticised the government’s current approach, which Mr Davies says is undermining Welsh industry.
Mr Davies pointed to Tata’s decision to shut down blast furnace capacity in Port Talbot while expanding operations overseas, as well as Dow’s announcement that almost 300 job cuts are planned at its basics siloxanes plant in Barry.
Mr Davies said:
“Trade unions are right that the current green agenda is unsustainable and damaging to Welsh industry, and that a more pragmatic approach is required.
“Welsh jobs are being sent abroad with blast furnaces shut at Port Talbot and Dow planning to cut almost 300 jobs at its Barry plant.
“Plaid Cymru separatists may cry crocodile tears over these job losses but it’s impossible to reconcile that with their demands to go even further on this ideological crusade.”
