“I cannot in good conscience look Welsh steelworkers in the eye when TATA are opening new blast furnaces in India, yet are shutting down capacity in Port Talbot.”

When I made these comments in a TV interview last year, I was criticised by Labour and Plaid Cymru nationalists.

But I stand by them.

Offshoring emissions, often to places with lower environmental standards than Britain, is “greenwashing”.

And it’s also hurting living standards and economic development here.
