South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has warned unsustainable immigration levels are the reason Vale communities face overdevelopment.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is currently progressing its Replacement Local Development Plan. Councillors will vote on the latest stage on Monday.

The Plan includes controversial plans for large scale development in St Athan, Rhoose and Weycock Cross, Barry.

The Council’s Draft Deposit Plan, which sets out the proposals, confirms the Vale’s population increased by 4.3% between the 2011 and 2021 censuses.[1]

It confirms a “long term migration trend” of people moving from Cardiff to the Vale.[2] This has created a “significant need for affordable homes”.[3]

Mr Davies said:

“Uncontrolled mass migration, supported by Plaid Cymru separatists and Labour, results in overdevelopment.

“Huge population increases in Cardiff cause spillover to the Vale. The Council admits this has created a significant housing need.

“The Council must make it clear to the Government that uncontrolled mass migration is putting huge pressures on our communities.

“But Plaid Cymru separatists and Labour councillors have done the opposite. They’ve designated the Vale a Council of Sanctuary for asylum seekers. This will put services under further strain.

“Plaid’s open borders policies are dangerous. Their leader Rhun ap Iorwerth admitted the party sees no borders. Unsustainable development is just one consequence of this extreme stance.”
