South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has said Senedd ministers must take responsibility for “unacceptable” levels of deprivation in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Welsh Government figures confirm that 8.5% of neighbourhoods in the Vale are considered “highly deprived”.
The area is ranked 10th highest for deprivation out of 22 local authorities in Wales.
Mr Davies called on Senedd ministers to take responsibility for the situation, blaming their policies for halting economic development.
He pointed to their failure to build infrastructure like the M4 Relief Road, which he said cost the Vale investment and good quality jobs.
He also warned their obsession over “ideological vanity projects” like making Wales a Nation of Sanctuary for asylum seekers and Senedd expansion had diverted resources away from improving living standards in the Vale.
Mr Davies said:
“Senedd ministers are to blame for unacceptable poverty levels in the Vale.
“Their failure to build infrastructure like the M4 Relief Road has cost our area investment and good quality jobs.
“Money wasted on Plaid and Labour’s Nation of Sanctuary for asylum seekers and 36 more Senedd members should have gone towards improving living standards in our communities.”
