Commenting on revelations that hundreds of Afghan “serious cases” including criminals were let into Britain under a government relocation scheme, South Wales Central MS Andrew RT Davies has demanded authorities come clean on “serious public safety concerns”.
News outlet Guido Fawkes revealed at least 28 violent criminals were imported into Britain under the scheme, while at least 1 person was referred to the government’s terrorism prevention programme.
More than 100 “Cases of Interest” were flagged.
Back in August, after resettled Afghans were housed at in the Vale of Glamorgan at the Holiday Inn Express, Rhoose, Mr Davies wrote to the Ministry of Defence raising a series of questions.
These included general questions regarding crime statistics relating to Afghan resettlement schemes, as well as specific requests in relation to the Vale of Glamorgan.
The MOD has still not answered these questions.
Mr Davies reported this to the Information Commissioner, who has ordered the Government to release the information within the next 10 days.
Mr Davies said:
“These shocking revelations about the Government’s Afghan resettlement schemes raise serious concerns regarding public safety and national security.
“Back in August, after the Holiday Inn in Rhoose was announced as a resettlement location, I requested full details of crime statistics from the MOD.
“Their refusal to answer will lead the public to ask just what have they got to hide.”
