South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has praised the Barry Royal British Legion and local schools’ “poignant commemorations” to mark Remembrance.
Ahead of Remembrance Sunday, the annual wreath and cross laying service took place at Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery on Friday 7th November.
Around 200 schoolchildren from across the town took part, laying crosses in commemoration of those who gave their lives defending our country.
Mr Davies laid a wreath alongside other elected members.
Mr Davies said:
“It was a privilege to attend the event, which was an exceptionally poignant way to mark Remembrance.
“Many of the veterans I spoke to rightly emphasised the importance of ensuring future generations appreciate the sacrifices of those who came before us.
“Involving local schools in commemorations is particularly important in this regard, and I pay tribute to the Royal British Legion for their work organising the event.
“Many of the children also gave readings as part of the service, and they were a credit to themselves and their schools.
“I’d like to thank Barry Royal British Legion for the kind invitation.”
