For the first time in many years, I observed Remembrance Sunday at my local service in Cowbridge.

During my time as leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Senedd, I was never able to attend, as I took part in the Wales National Service of Remembrance in Cardiff.

Today was particularly poignant, as it reminded me of the way our town comes together to remember those who gave their lives defending our country. This, of course, includes people who hailed from our town.

As a nation, we must never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and defend us. For this to happen, we can’t just defer to statements and appearances by our leaders at national events. We must also take part, together, in our communities.

The turnout in Cowbridge today was very heartening to see. People from across the the town and surrounding areas made the effort to attend, in order to commemorate together.

To all those who serve and have served, thank you. And to those who gave their lives, we owe to deepest debt of gratitude.

We will remember them.
