This week’s report into paedophile headteacher Neil Foden made for sobering reading.
It found Plaid Cymru-led Gwynedd Council missed 52 opportunities to stop Foden’s appalling abuse.
Between 2017 and 2023, numerous reports were made about Foden’s conduct with female pupils. These were not acted upon.
This is why oversight of child safeguarding reviews is needed.
This is inexcusable, since such oversight was a recommendation of the Clwych Report, a previous review into child sex abuse.
In the Senedd, I raised this with Education Minister Lynne Neagle.
Foden’s appalling abuse took place as a result of serious safeguarding failings.
My thoughts are, of course, with Foden’s victims and their families, who have gone through unimaginable abuse and trauma.
The system failed them. A lack of leadership meant their safety and wellbeing was not protected.
Plaid Cymru separatist councillors in Gwynedd and Senedd ministers have many questions to answer.
