South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has emphasised the importance of diversification to the farming and agricultural sectors, after visiting Porthcawl Pumpkin Patch.

Mr Davies, who farms in the Vale of Glamorgan and chairs the Senedd’s Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee, said such ventures help ensure British farming remains viable and guarantee the nation’s food security.

Porthcawl Pumpkin Patch is run by father and son John and Huw Joseph, who operate from Ty Coch Farm with the kind permission of their landlord.

Mr Davies warmly praised John and Huw’s business, which he said, “made for a great family day out”.

Mr Davies said:

“For British farming to survive and thrive, diversification is crucial.

“John and Huw’s venture at Ty Coch Farm is an excellent example, which gives families the opportunity to celebrate Halloween and also support local agriculture.

“With a farming tax on the horizon that threatens the industry’s future, British farmers need your support.

“It was a pleasure to visit Porthcawl Pumpkin Patch and to see so many local people enjoying a fun day out.

“If you haven’t yet been, I’d definitely recommend a visit.”
