South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has demanded an explanation from the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Labour leadership, after documents appeared to show the lease for a controversial aqua park at Cosmeston Lakes could last as long as 15 years.

The documents, obtained and shared by the Save Cosmeston and the Vale action group, appear to constitute an email exchange involving the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

It includes a document titled “Cosmeston Meeting 30/1/2025 – Advance Notes For Discussion”. Agenda item 3a states “15-year term, 1 year break each way, exclusivity”.

Another email, apparently sent to the Council, stated “I am in agreement with you that we down play it until it is truly over the line.”

Mr Davies demanded Labour councillors clarify the lease length urgently, and confirm the veracity or otherwise of the documents.

Mr Davies said:

“It is deeply concerning to hear the suggestion the lease for this completely inappropriate aqua park could last as long as 15 years – the Council must clarify urgently if this is the case.

“The contents of these documents were raised at a meeting of the Vale of Glamorgan Council on Monday 14th July – but concerns were not addressed adequately by the Labour Cabinet, nor have I seen any denial from the Council that they are genuine.

“The Council’s handling of the matter has been a complete shambles and residents’ confidence in its ability to deliver services is at an all-time low.”
