South Wales Central MS and Former Welsh Conservative Senedd Leader Andrew RT Davies has slammed Labour Senedd ministers’ “shocking ignorance”, after farming industry representatives said they were ignored over livestock restrictions.
At the Senedd’s Economy, Trade and Rural Affairs Committee, Mr Davies asked industry representatives about engagement they’d had with Welsh Government on restrictions limiting movement from England into Wales.
Nick Allen, Chief Executive of the British Meat Processors Association said the industry had “pointed problems out” to Senedd ministers, urging them to move to an England-Wales zone.
He said the industry “wasn’t listened to”.
He also warned the restrictions would make Welsh plants less competitive and described them as “another nail in the coffin”.
Mr Davies said:
“These shocking warnings show the devastating consequences of Labour Senedd ministers’ ignorance.
“Industry leaders warned these disproportionate restrictions would make Welsh plants less competitive, yet they were ignored.
“These restrictions were imposed for separatist reasons, and Welsh agriculture is suffering the effects.”
