South Wales Central MS and Former Welsh Conservative Senedd Leader Andrew RT Davies has warned restrictions on livestock movements from England, which come into force in Wales today, will “decimate the Welsh agricultural industry”.
Mr Davies said the “disproportionate” restrictions, imposed by Labour Senedd ministers, would not stop the spread of the bluetongue virus but would prove fatal for many Welsh farmers.
Mr Davies said:
“This virus is not spread cattle to cattle or sheep to sheep – it’s spread by midges flying through the air.
“The idea insects will respect the border with Offa’s Dyke is ludicrous.
“This English livestock ban – imposed by Senedd ministers for separatist reasons – will not stop the virus spreading but will decimate the agricultural industry in Wales, putting many livelihoods at risk.”
