South Wales Central MS and Former Welsh Conservative Senedd Leader Andrew RT Davies has slammed criticism of Louis Rees-Zammit after the former Welsh rugby international was photographed wearing a Union Flag during a photoshoot for American Football team Jacksonville Jaguars.
Reece-Zammit responded to criticism by those who said he should instead have worn a Welsh flag, telling them to “chill” and pointing out he is “Welsh through and through”.
Mr Davies said:
“Wales is proudly part of Britain – this criticism is completely unjustified and uncalled for.
“Displaying the Union Flag does not make anyone less Welsh – and it’s unacceptable to claim that it does.
“There is no monopoly on Welshness and support for Wales inside the Union is the patriotic thing to do.”
