South Wales Central MS Andrew RT Davies has criticised plans for an aqua park at Cosmeston Country Park, describing it as “an out touch proposal from an out of touch council”.

Mr Davies said the proposals, brought forward by the Labour-run Vale of Glamorgan Council, are being imposed against the wishes of residents.

He blasted the insufficient consultation on the plans, and claimed legitimate objections were ignored.

Park users have long been warned against swimming in the lake, with several warning signs installed around the park.

Mr Davies described this situation as a “farce”.

Mr Davies said:

“Residents from across Penarth, Barry and the Eastern Vale see Cosmeston as a quiet, relaxing place to walk their dogs and enjoy a peaceful walk.

“An aqua park is a completely unsuitable development at this location. These plans are ill thought out and will be highly damaging.

“It’s quite clear residents and park users don’t want them, yet this out of touch Labour Council is ploughing on regardless. It’s absolutely remarkable. The Council and its leader Lis Burnett have serious questions to answer.

“Conservative councillors in the Vale oppose these plans, and they are absolutely right to do so.

“What makes the whole thing even more ridiculous is the park is full of signs warning people not to swim in the lake, as it’s dangerous to do so.

“Yet now Labour councillors are telling us an aqua park is appropriate. It is an absolute farce.”
