Without doubt, it’s been a difficult year.

But as we settle down to celebrate Christmas, we should take a moment to reflect on its significance and meaning.

Britain is a proudly Christian country.
This is something to celebrate, as is the message that Christ’s birth sends – of peace and goodwill to all.

While we enjoy the festivities of the next few days, hopefully with loved ones, we should all take a moment to think of those who will, for whatever reason, be experiencing hardship.

Not everyone will be enjoying tomorrow with loved ones – and my thoughts are with all those who are recently bereaved, or those serving in our armed forces, our emergency services, our NHS and all other key workers.

Christ’s birth is also a symbol of hope.
It is in this spirit that I look forward to the new year with optimism, and the opportunities that it will bring.Wishing you all a very merry Christmas.
